When spirit has to get real:
Creativity, Love and Climate

Spirituality is returning  to our Western culture, in many ways. Practices such as meditation, mindfulness and yoga have become part of daily life for many – an oasis where the necessary space is created to free oneself from stress and minor conflicts, and to touch into a deeper layer in oneself. With time, daily meditation can almost be addictive because it softens and lightens one´s experience of many things.

But how much difference does it actually make? A harmonious atmosphere is nice – but is that all? Are there greater and wilder ways in which spirituality and contemplation can influence our time and our lives?

This course follows spirit at work in getting real in 3-4 areas of great need in our time. We need  more community, friendship and love in the entire spectrum from our personal relationships to the ways we participate in the planet´s ecosystems. We need a creativity that is innovative and yet dares to open eyes for the depths of being in all that already is. Perhaps we even need to become able to the dimension of "the holy" again - that which has value not by virtue of useful purposes but of its own. During the course we will investigate some of the forms that already are created – and some that perhaps are coming about. The teachers and the themes are synthesized so we can explore in depth inwardly and outwardly at the same time: inwards in spirit and outwards in life.

Themes in seminar 2:

  • Love, friendship and community in a hyper-individualist time
  • Visions and passions in art and science
  • The meeting of East and West - in depth
  • Spirit and sustainability
  • Holy landscapes, words and actions - can any of it make new sense?

"The Open Nordic Contemplative College" (Danmarks kontemplative højskole) is a forum for deepening and exploration. Its form of teaching and sharing is deeply inspired by the Nordic Folk High School movement (read more here) and the Mind and Life Institute. The summer seminars take place at the Buddhist retreat center Gomde in Helgenæs, Denmark - a beautiful landscape with beaches, forests, apple orchards and rolling hills.

Everyone interested can participate. Højskole seminars are for people of all ages, and for those who have had Buddhism or meditation as part of their personal lives for decades, as well as those who would like to deepen their understanding of this growing impulse in our shared reality.
